A riverside village with good links

Wheathampstead sits on the River Lea between St Albans and Harpenden, with a historic high street, a mill and a good spread of pubs. The village has no railway station of its own, so a taxi is often the simplest way to reach a train. Devil's Dyke, an ancient earthwork, lies on the edge of the village, and Shaw's Corner, George Bernard Shaw's former home at Ayot St Lawrence, is a short drive through the lanes.

From the village centre, Luton Airport is only about 15 minutes away on clear roads. Heathrow is around 34 minutes, Stansted near 51 minutes and Gatwick about 1h 10m. Inbound flights are watched in real time, and you pay the agreed fare even if the plane is late.

With no station in the village, many residents book a ride to Harpenden or St Albans for the Thameslink, or to Welwyn Garden City, about seven minutes away. It is also an easy choice for a night out in St Albans.
